Here is one of those tricky questions that can cause arguments in relationships and friendships: can people who are in a relationship still have one or more good friends of the opposite sex? I mean, most people would say why not, but that answer tends to blur once you’re actually in a relationship and have to deal with your boyfriend hanging out with his girl mates (or vice versa).
We all cop those dreary sort of days when we’re feeling unmotivated and way too tired to dress up, let alone actually leave the house to go out to a nightclub or bar. Sometimes you end up giving in to your exhaustion, and decide to embrace having a lazy night in with junk food and a movie. But other times, you feel like you have to go out.
I don’t know about you, but my life is busy. Everyday I’m working or studying or doing something that is freaking tiring. So when I go out, usually I’m tired and have to regain my energy through drinking or the magic of Red Bull.
Clubs aren’t always an intimate affair, but with so many small bars around these days, it is easy to get cosy with the bar tenders. I am talking about sitting at the bar. There tends to be less leg room, elbow grazing bench tops, un-backed stool type chairs and the risk of an occasional drink spillage as people push passed you for service. But there are benefits to sitting at the bar.
Guys have it pretty good when it comes to winter going out fashion. From jeans to suits, their clothing is warm. Granted, they have it worse in the summer when they see the ‘no shorts no service’ signs outside a pub full of girls in short shorts. But on these 10 degree nights, us women have to sacrifice our warmth for the sake of conventional ‘going out fashion’, which tend to be mainly dresses, skirts and shorts.
As they say, a rainy day often dampens the mood. This is particularly an issue when it comes to being ‘psyched’ to go out. As fate always seems to have it, weekends tend to be especially wet and cold. When a sunny-but-cool winter Friday-day turns grey and the rain starts dropping, so do our enthusiasm levels.
You get home from work on a Friday evening and do not feel like going out. You’ve had a long day, your boss probably yelled at you or you got singled out in a tute at uni. It’s probably raining too. How do you go from wanting to go to bed with a hot chocolate to hitting the town?
1. You have a boyfriend? Fuck you!
You are in a club having a nice conversation with someone at the bar as you naturally need something to do while you wait. You get talking about some ‘common’ ground (you like movies too?).
There are those people who you get along with really well but only when you are out drinking. They make your night funner, you make there’s funner. But the friendship seems to dwindle with the coming of the hang over. You don’t speak to them all week and they don’t contact you either.
The Ivy: You like to show that you have money (or at least appear so). You own a black laptop satchel which you wear to the Ivy on Friday nights. You like to hang out next to pools but not go in them. This reflects your cautious nature, you like the idea of adventure but prefer to watch Man Vs Wild then take a bush walk.
