Clubs aren’t always an intimate affair, but with so many small bars around these days, it is easy to get cosy with the bar tenders. I am talking about sitting at the bar. There tends to be less leg room, elbow grazing bench tops, un-backed stool type chairs and the risk of an occasional drink spillage as people push passed you for service. But there are benefits to sitting at the bar.
Guys have it pretty good when it comes to winter going out fashion. From jeans to suits, their clothing is warm. Granted, they have it worse in the summer when they see the ‘no shorts no service’ signs outside a pub full of girls in short shorts. But on these 10 degree nights, us women have to sacrifice our warmth for the sake of conventional ‘going out fashion’, which tend to be mainly dresses, skirts and shorts.
As they say, a rainy day often dampens the mood. This is particularly an issue when it comes to being ‘psyched’ to go out. As fate always seems to have it, weekends tend to be especially wet and cold. When a sunny-but-cool winter Friday-day turns grey and the rain starts dropping, so do our enthusiasm levels.
When you wake up after a night out, you need to replenish your lost nutrients. You also often have a craving for junk food. More specifically Mexican food. Eggs are generally hailed as a good hangover food; this is because of the taurine content, which gives you energy and yolk contains cysteine which helps break down nasty hangover causing acetaldehyde.
Recently I had two separate drinking experiences of similar intensity but with different results. One morning after, I could not get out of bed as I felt nauseous and had a bad headache. The other morning after I felt a little tired (which can be contributed to the late night) and exhausted but nothing major.
A brewery is a place where beers are brewed. That’s right, they did not just fall from the heavens. They’re a great place to try a few different beers and also to learn about your favourite drop.
All you need to play King of Beers is a circle of friends, booze, a playing card deck minus the Jokers (and instruction cards, come on people) and some kind of jug-like liquids receptacle.
Mono = Monorail. Crawl = Pub Crawl.
It’s less than a month until the monorail in Sydney is removed. The useless mode of transport dreamt up by somebody who read too much sci-fi is on its way out so now’s the time to take advantage.
Everything is better in summer. Sundays mean napping on the beach then diving into cool salty waves, reemerging hangover free. Now that temperatures and rains are dropping, you need to find something indoorsy to do to distract from the pounding headache and nausea. Here are some movie suggestions and appropriate times to use them.
You get home from work on a Friday evening and do not feel like going out. You’ve had a long day, your boss probably yelled at you or you got singled out in a tute at uni. It’s probably raining too. How do you go from wanting to go to bed with a hot chocolate to hitting the town?
