Articles you’ll actually use before a night out
City guides and planning notes for people who want a precinct plan — not a fake top-ten. First paragraph answers the question; hours still need verifying on the night.
These articles sit beside the city hubs, not above them. If you already know the city, open Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, or Hobart first. Use a post when you need a comparison, a first-timer sequence, or the lockout-law history stated without folklore.
We will not publish a “best club in Australia” list, a live cover charge, or a star rating invented to fill a thin page. Archive names stay labelled historical. Practical questions — ID, last drinks, dress codes — also live on the nightlife FAQ and the venue-type guides for nightclubs, cocktail bars, and pubs.
Guest-era posts from the old site are kept only when they still explain a useful pattern. A 2011 app launch is history, not a download button. Corrections go through contact.

Canberra Civic after dark
Civic is a compact Canberra night — pubs, hotel bars, and a handful of late rooms — not a Valley-scale strip. Confirm hours; 2011 Academy and Civic cards are historical character.

Cover charges and last drinks in Australia
Cover charges are set by the venue and show up most often on Friday and Saturday after a set hour. There is no national last-drinks time. This directory will not invent a price.

Gold Coast vs Brisbane nightlife
The Gold Coast is a visitor late-night strip — Surfers and Cavill. Brisbane is a river city that splits Valley late rooms from West End courtyards. Neither is a ranked winner here.

Hobart’s Salamanca after dark
Salamanca and the waterfront are Hobart’s visitor first-pour precinct — sandstone, hotel bars, and a harbour walk. The Saturday market is daytime; evening hours belong to each room.

ID, RSA and getting into Australian venues
You need photo ID if you look under 25, the legal drinking age is 18, and venues can refuse entry under responsible service of alcohol. This directory does not guarantee a door.

First night in Perth’s Northbridge
Northbridge is Perth’s late-night precinct immediately north of the railway. Walk there from the CBD with one last-room plan, then verify the named club still trades.

Cocktail bar etiquette and how to order
You do not need the whole menu. Name a spirit or a flavour, ask what is in season, and treat the bar as a pour — not a test. Book if the room takes bookings; we do not invent a wait time.

Nightclub dress codes in major Australian cities
Dress codes are set by the door, not by this directory. Smart casual is the usual Saturday ask in capital-city clubs; sneakers and hats are the usual refusals — confirm the venue.

Sydney vs Melbourne nightlife — which suits you?
Sydney nights split harbour courtyards vs late Cross/CBD rooms. Melbourne nights split laneway pours vs Fitzroy walking pubs. Neither city has a ranked winner here — pick the geography.

How to plan a night out in Melbourne
Pick one precinct you can walk — CBD laneways, Fitzroy pubs, or a St Kilda bill — then verify the room. Melbourne nights fail when you treat the whole city as one crawl.

Sydney after the lockout laws
NSW lockout and last-drinks rules arrived in 2014 and were wound back from 2020. They changed after-1am habits. They did not invent a single best club, and they do not replace a venue’s own door policy tonight.

Adelaide CBD after dark
Adelaide is a compact CBD. Hindley-adjacent late rooms and East End cocktail rooms sit in the same walking city. Use hyphenated /adelaide/adelaide-cbd/ paths; old underscore and /all/ URLs 301.

Fortitude Valley for first-timers
The Valley was Brisbane’s late-night gravity well on the old site. How to use the precinct page, what Family Nightclub’s archived blurb is worth, and why West End is a different night.

Harbour sandstone and a Rocks courtyard
The Rocks is the Sydney precinct we seeded properly. How The Argyle Hotel sat in the old directory, and how not to treat a courtyard blurb as tonight’s floorplan.

A Fitzroy night that still makes sense
Skip the CBD grid for a walkable north-side plan. How to use Fitzroy as a precinct, what the archive actually said about Yah Yah’s, and what this directory will not pretend to know.

AccessVIP app rocking Perth’s nightclubs
Historical article slug from the former site, rewritten as a dated note. AccessVIP was a guest-list / nightlife app era piece — not a current ranking of Perth clubs, and not an endorsement.
