This page keeps that city-wide bucket as a live index — the register of rooms this rebuild has actually written, including historical archive cards.
It is not a walking map. If you are standing on George Street wondering which way to walk, open The Rocks, the Sydney CBD, Kings Cross, Oxford Street, or Darling Harbour. Those pages are geography. This page is the filing cabinet.
How /sydney/all/{venue}/ works
Hyphenated /sydney/all/{venue}/ is the canonical profile path. The old CMS used underscores; those slugs 301 here. Later experiments that nested a venue under a precinct also resolve to this index pattern. If you bookmarked a precinct-nested URL, you still land on the room — the precinct hub itself stays as a map.
/search/sydney/all/ was the old search listing. It is not a second directory. Treat this page as the honest list of seeded Sydney profiles, then treat each profile as character plus a reminder to verify.
The parent guide for choosing a night is the Sydney city hub, not this index. The hub asks which precinct you can stand in. This index answers which cards we have written.
Precincts are walking maps — this is the register
Sydney nights split by shore and tempo. The Rocks is sandstone courtyards and multi-room hotels you can abandon at Circular Quay. The CBD is the train-adjacent first-pour grid — hotel bars and leftover late floors, with George Street as a spine rather than a plan. Kings Cross and Potts Point remain late-room geography on Darlinghurst Road; the 2010s name list is not a timetable. Oxford Street is Darlinghurst’s other spine — live rooms and late bars, adjacent to the Cross and not interchangeable with it. Darling Harbour is destination waterfront with large rooms, including the historical Home listing, not a laneway.
Those differences belong on the precinct pages. This index will not flatten them into a single “Sydney nightlife” crawl. If you try to open every card and visit every precinct, you will spend the night in a taxi. Pick a precinct first, then open one or two profiles from this list.
Missing ≠ closed
A name you remember from 2011 may not appear here. That gap is a research backlog, not a closure notice. Compass-point buckets from the old map (north / east / south / west, Inner West, Circular Quay as its own card) are not all seeded as precinct pages. Missing ≠ closed.
A name that does appear may be marked historical. That mark means the copy was seeded from the former directory. It does not mean the room is open, and it does not mean the room is shut. Confirm trading, last drinks, and dress on the venue’s own channels.
NSW lockout laws (2014, wound back from 2020) still haunt old blurbs. They are not a current city-wide timer. Venues set last drinks.

No star ratings. Hours belong to the venue. This index exists so the 2011 URL still means something — a city-wide list of rooms we have written — and so precinct pages can stay maps instead of fake parents.
How to read a Sydney card without turning it into a crawl
A profile on this index is a character sheet: what kind of room the archive described, which precinct walking map it sits beside, and a reminder to verify. It is not a booking widget. It is not a live cover. It is not permission to add a second precinct.
If the card is a courtyard hotel, the matching map is The Rocks. If it is a leftover city floor, use the CBD. If it is a multi-level terrace, use Kings Cross. If it is a live room on Darlinghurst’s other spine, use Oxford Street. If it is a historical superclub on the western waterfront, use Darling Harbour and treat successor-floor questions as verification, not nostalgia.
Search-engine listings still surface /search/sydney/all/ and underscore slugs. Those paths exist so old inbound links resolve. They are not a second, more complete directory. If a name you typed is missing, the honest reading is missing ≠ closed — the rebuild has not written that card — not “Sydney shut that room.” If a name is present and marked historical, the honest reading is “seeded from the former directory,” not “open Saturday.”
Compass-point pages (north / east / south / west) and Inner West remain backlog on the Sydney hub. Circular Quay as its own card is also backlog; the walking start for that edge is The Rocks. This index will not invent those precincts to look fuller.
Lockout-era blurbs inside old copy should be read next to Sydney after the lockout laws. The laws were wound back from 2020. Venues set last drinks. This register will not reprint a city-wide timer.
