Advertisements for this year’s Midsumma Festival have been impossible to ignore over previous weeks, with the event’s iconic rainbow coloured ice block plastered across trams, billboards and publications throughout Melbourne. While that commercial sweet treat does seem enticing, many of us are still asking the question, what is Midsumma Festival exactly?
Midsumma Festival is an annual celebration of queer culture in the city of Melbourne, exhibiting a range of performing arts, live music, visual art and community based activities.
Having reeled in over 100,000 attendees in previous years, Midsumma is growing along with gay and lesbian acceptance, at a rapid rate.
This year’s festival opened with a bang on January 15th and will continue festivities for both gay and straight patrons right through until February 5th.
With Midsumma’s final week for 2012 just around the corner, it’s time turn that ice block desire into a desire to support Australia’s gay and lesbian community.
Will you take part?
