Coldplay have taken out the UK’s first number one single for 2012 with ‘Paradise’ on January 1. Coldplay took over the Christmas number one, ‘Wherever You Are’ by Military Wives, which dropped to number four.‘Paradise’ was released 10 weeks ago and since then has risen to take out the top spot.
Coldplay celebrated the news by twittering, “What an amazing way to start 2012. Happy new year everyone!”
It was not an unfamiliar spot for the band who took out the UK’s number one with ‘Viva La Vida’ in 2008.
Just behind ‘Paradise’ was Olly Murs who rose four places to number two with ‘Dance With Me Tonight.’
In the album charts Ed Sheeran took out the top spot with his album ‘+’. The 19-year-old rose eight places to number one.
Close behind at number two and having climbed nine places was Bruno Mars with ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans.’
