Just the mere mention of this 90′s group brings a shudder of contempt from most lovers of pop/dance/whatever the hell these guys are and chances are many have already decided to leave this website never to return… BUT you probably still after all these years can hum the tune to Barbiegirl!!!
Whatever your motivation for listening to the song (for me it was watching the film clip), the Scandinavian group, who’s members all contain letters that don’t actually appear on my keyboard and thus, I am unable to tell you, proved beyond reasonable doubt that in the world of 90′s music, anything goes.
Whether you attend one of their shows because you like the music, pure nostalgia or uncontrollable masochistic psychological issues, chances are you will leave with a new-found understanding of the word Kitsch.
Whilst I will not be attending as I am not a fan, I do however know all the lyrics to Barbiegirl and the chorus to Dr Jones, which probably means ACTUAL FANS fans will be absolutely losing their mind of news of their impending tour and just want me to get to the dates.

Seem to have a lot of letters your keyboard should contain.

LOL, Aqua is great, and everybody needs some Kitsch here and there.
I was actually not aware that the band still exists, but it’s great to see
they do.
Who knows, I might even gather a few friends and get some Kitsch of my own

I know the promoters want to cash in on the nostalgia of this 90′s revival and the novelty of songs like Barbie Girl, but I really wish all these articles would mention some of their more recent tracks from the Greatest Hits disc and the brand new album Megalomania, and stop treating them as a novelty one-hit-wonder. Aqua have had MANY hits, not all of them the typical up tempo pop songs (not that there is anything wrong with that, don’t be snobs), and it’s been 15 years since Barbie Girl was released. They’ve grown a lot as a band in that time, becoming a more serious adult electro-pop act rather than the dancey bubblegum europop (again, not that there’s anything wrong with that nor does it make them any less as a serious act). Lene is also more than just a high pitched voice, she’s actually a wonderful live performer and singer… listen to songs like We Belong To The Sea, Aquarius, Good Guys, Playmate To Jesus, If The World Didn’t Suck, etc. They still have their playfulness and tongue-in-cheek lyrics but they are no longer marketable towards kids and don’t want to be seen as a novelty act… and it seems it’s only our ignorant country that’s treating them like one… typical, as it seems everyone wants to completely scare away every single international act that comes here.

It does seem nostalgia sells more tickets then other forms of promotion, however to be fair, the reason people in Australia are familiar with Aqua as a result of their, as you put it, Bubblegum Europop. I think with a string of hits like that it is only understandable that they get the musical equivalent of being typecasted.
Perhaps this is a platform to launch their new stuff… not sure?

Tickets get more expensive the closer you get to the departure date. The reason flights are cheaper in late May and early June is because it’s before the summer peak travel season when tickets normally go up quite a bit. . . For travel in June, you should probably buy your ticket very soon. If you think the tickets are high now, you’ll be in for a big shock if you wait too much longer.
