Internationally acclaimed singer songwriter ‘Dido’, this week announced the name of her July born son, ‘Stan’, after weeks of speculation from the public.
The name, derived from the Eminem hit ‘Stan” (a song which brought London based Dido to stardom) is presumed to be a form of thanks to the man who gave her a start in music.
Ironically, the song tells the story of a fictional character ‘Stan’ who holds an obsession with Eminem, eventually leading the character to kill both his pregnant wife and himself.
The name choice received varied reactions from fans, some have labelled the choice as morbid, while others praised the tribute as an unforgettable gesture.
Dido’s debut album ‘No Angels’ sold more than 21 million copies in 2001.
Dido, who turned 40 on Christmas Day has made no recent move to return to music. The singer cancelled an Academy Awards appearance in February after discovering her pregnancy.
Rapper Eminem is yet to comment on the unusual birth name.
