Robarta Review

By Catherine Falalis

Located on St Kilda’s Fitzroy Street, Robarta is a funky little place delivering not only two levels worth of great entertainment, but also a range of delicious cocktails and a wonderfully constructed Asian inspired menu.

The interior radiates warmth and oriental inspiration, with dimly lit, red lighting a prominent feature of the venue. The downstairs is decked out with a combination of rustic wooden tables and stools – perfect for a dinner with friends – as well as cushioned black booths, providing comfort for a few drinks afterwards. Various paintings and feature walls compliment the rustic oriental theme, consisting of browns, whites and greys. Hanging from the ceiling are stringed bulb lights and mirror balls in preparation for the club scene later on in the night. The perfect touch is the big Buddha statue eyeing off the bar, which really does set the atmosphere for the venue stylistically.

You’ll find that the warm lighting and red toned theme has continued upstairs. A dance floor and bar will keep you entertained and there is plenty of seating available with many booths on offer. Upstairs is available for functions via booking, and it even has a private entrance to keep your party exclusive.

The interior of the venue compliments the Asian inspired menu, providing a lovely dining experience. If you’re a seafood fan, I highly recommend you try their teriyaki prawns or crunchy almond prawns for around $10-$13. If seafood isn’t your thing, try the baked eggplant with miso or a variety of the delicious dumplings on offer. There are also varieties of beef, lamb and pork dishes to choose from.

Of course, you’ll need something to wash that meal down and what better way to do so than with one of Robarta’s amazing cocktails! Prices average at around $18-$20 but they are definitely worth it. Try one of their White Chocolate and Passion Fruit Martinis or a Mojito and you’ll be set for the rest of the night. And there’s no need to feel left out if you’re the designated driver for the night as the variety of mocktails on offer will only set you back around $12.

Once the dinner session is over, Robarta goes from restaurant to club, with DJs usually beginning to play from around 10pm. However the venue is open until 7am and doesn’t get overly busy until much later. By 2:30-3am upstairs is open and pumping house music and the venue does get a bigger crowd. The venue draws a crowd which ranges in age, from those in their twenties to others in their forties. Entry to Robarta once the club scene has begun is $5.

Robarta has different nights including drag shows on Mondays, and RnB from 10pm on Sundays. The staff are very friendly and the service is fantastic.

The dress sense is neat casual. Guys can get away with jeans and a t-shirt, while girls aren’t restricted to wearing dresses and heels.

Robarta is a fantastically versatile venue offering nights which cater to a range of people’s tastes, providing a fun night out with a great atmosphere and great company.
