Throwing a party is one of the most exciting/nerve-wracking events one can have (next to a wedding, of course). Planning the perfect party can take days/weeks/months and can be very time consuming. Not only do you have to organise the venue, music, food, drinks and party invites, you also need to decide if you want a theme. Choosing whether to have a theme or not is one of the more challenging roles. A theme can make the party more exciting. It gives guests an opportunity to have some fun before the party, makes for great conversation starters and the photos look cooler. Choosing which theme in particular, however, can be just as challenging. So here is a list of the top five costume party ideas that are sure to make your party one to remember (even if the photos are the only reminder of the night).
5. Cops and Robbers. Being able to dress as a cop or robber leaves so much room for imagination. Girls have the ability to make the cop outfit look sexy complete with handcuffs, hats and boots. You can also get creative with the robbers outfit by dressing up in orange jumpsuits (inmates) and attaching a name tag reading ‘Paris Hilton’ just for fun.
4. Sailors and Pirates. This theme too can allow you to get creative. Think Jack Sparrow for pirates or go old-school with the patch over the eye, ripped clothes, no shoes and a parrot on your shoulder.
3. Cartoons. Growing up watching cartoons makes for an easy theme. The most difficult part is deciding which cartoon to go with. There are so many options, including Disney characters, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Tweety Bird, Power Puff Girls, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Popeye, the Simpsons, Shrek, Bananas in Pyjamas, the Flinstones, the Incredibles, etc.
2. Movie Icons. Always a favourite as everyone has a favourite movie star they would love to dress up as. From Marilyn Monroe, to Tom Cruise in Risky Business, to Sandy and Danny in Grease and the cast of The Great Gatsby. Movie icons are one of the biggest ranges of costume choices that are sure to be talk about at your party.
1. One of the most popular dress up themes I believe to be is: Superheroes. As a little kid, superheroes were mentioned as bedtime stories and seen on the morning cartoons. So it’s only natural as an adult that we want to re-live our childhood with these memories. Characters to choose from range from: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, the Green Lantern and Iron Man, plus many more.
Themes definitely add enjoyment to a party. So next time you plan on throwing a bash, think about creating a theme, it won’t disappoint.
