Bondi Beach’s Shore Thing festival should be turning eight this year, but the event may not reach its next birthday. The famous New Year’s festival –which attracts headline acts such as Fat Boy Slim, David Guetta and Snoop Dogg – was first introduced as part of the Waverley Council’s Summer Initiative
but has since become so popular that locals are calling for it to be scrapped, according to Bondi’s precinct convenor Lenore Kulakauskas.
Party goers will be disappointed if the event is shut down on Australia’s more famous beach, but Ms Kulakauskas says the event no longer reflects the values of Council.
“The whole general community dislikes this event. They leave Bondi at New Year’s Eve because they just don’t want to be here for it,” Ms Kulakauskas said in a recent interview.
“Residents are fed up with a range of issues, including the noise [and] the ‘feral’ nature of the crowd”.
The local council is debating as to whether a more family orientated event would be more suitable in the future.
