How long does it take you to get dressed when you head out for a night on the town?
The guys may not take as long as the girls, because they claim that there is no need to get too dressed up. Just chuck on a clean shirt and some pants is all they have to do. Yet, for us girls it is much harder to decide on an outfit for the day and even much harder to decide on an outfit for the night.
This creates the question, why is it so hard to choose an outfit? I think it is all about impressions and out perception of what society will see us like. Short, tight and dark seems to be the fashion trend lately. We are after something that makes us ladies look slim and sexy for the lads.
Then again, who are we out to impress? Yeah sure, there are a tonne of guys out there that we would love to show off our physique to, but there is also the competition of those girls that we believe look better than us. You know the feeling when you are out one night sipping your cocktail thinking, ‘I wish I had her hair or her dress or her body’. The envy that builds up in us is all a part of being human and that jealous plays a role in how long it takes for us to choose our outfit for a night out.
The other thought that crosses our minds is heels or no heels? For different occasions, we can’t decide on what to wear, because we need a second opinion on what our friends are wearing. It gives us the peace of mind that we are wearing something appropriate for a particular event. I don’t know about you, but showing up to a party in costume when everyone else is in plain clothes is almost like wearing the wrong outfit to a night out event.
The final factor that plays in our minds when we are getting ready is comfort and practicality. Is this outfit going to hold up through the night? Will this be comfortable or am I just going to be too drunk to care by the end of the night?
Personally, I believe that fashion trounces comfort every time. Comfort is only temporary, but a photograph of a bad outfit lasts forever.
For ladies, in particular, we are critical about how we look to the public. We judge each other based on looks and then on personality, as we also do with guys. Therefore, make-up becomes a must-have for a night out and the trips to the bathroom allow us to touch up our mascara and blusher before we hit the dance floor again.
So next time you’re about to head out and hit the town, note how much preparation you put into choosing and outfit for only that one night.
