So you’ve decided to hit the town, it’s a Friday or Saturday night, you’ve had a few drinks and you start flirting with the hot boy/girl at the bar. After a few cheesy one-liners and a few shots later, he/she agrees to go home with you. One thing leads to another and the window to sex is open, the only thing standing in the way…no condom. If it’s not on, it’s not on, right? So who’s fault is it that no action will be occurring tonight? It’s the age old question of who should provide the condom.
I guess there’s no real right or wrong answer. So instead I’ll look at it from a boy and girls perspective.
From a girls point of view, a boy should definitely be in charge. We do our part if we are on the pill. Something we have to remember to take every day, pay money for every three months and have to have regular examinations each year to make sure we are all clear. So isn’t it fair that the boy should supply the condom? He is the one with the penis after all and we don’t ask for pill money. If a boy is going out in hope of picking up, he should be prepared. Boys have to carry a wallet of some sort with them on a night out that contains ID and bankcards/money, so squeezing a condom or two in there should be no problem.
However, boys may have a different opinion. From a boys point of view, girls go out in hope of picking up just as much as they do. So why should they get away with not having to purchase condoms? For a boy, girls being on the pill only stops the chance of pregnancy, it does nothing to stop STIs. So therefore, girls are just as likely to catch a STI as boys, so why should the boy have to supply the protection? Some girls too are very particular about which condoms they use. Some like naked condoms, some flavoured and some adventurous girls like ribbed. So if girls are wishing to have a pleasurable one-night-stand, they should be in charge of the condom as much as boys.
I guess there’s no rule about who should provide one, more so it’s a gender expectation. When adventuring out for the night in hope of picking up, both parties should be responsible enough to provide protection from pregnancy and STIs. It doesn’t hurt either to have a condom tucked in your wallet or bra (for girls, obviously) just in case.
However, guys, it wouldn’t hurt to keep a condom in your wallet at all times regardless whether you think you’ll get lucky or not. Hey, it may even make us more willing to go home with you knowing you’re prepared! After all, what girl doesn’t like a guy with ambition.

If you think there’s a even a tiny possibility you’ll have sex that night, no matter who you are, you should be prepared - it’s about protecting yourself after all!! It isn’t even about gender expectations, it’s about being responsible for yourself.
