Wolfe Lane Bar Review

Review By Leanne Tay

So what I am eager to know is why the most upmarket, refined and sophisticated bars all seem to be cleverly hidden and relatively unknown. Does the idea of exclusivity provide it with some sort of coveted must-go factor? As I pose this question in which I have no real answer to, I will go on to introduce you to another one of Perth's hidden wonders. Wolfe Lane bar is a delicious little secret that is only starting to achieve esteem as word of mouth spreads like wild fire.

Mysteriously hidden down the alleyway of Wolf Lane just off Murray Street, it may be difficult to find but the hunt will end rewardingly. With only a mild queue and no cover charge, so far so good. My first impression of the place was thinking that I must have mistakenly walked into an artsy high-end Manhattan loft. It may be the closest thing to experiencing a slice of New York - untainted class. From the large cityscape mural on the wall to the leather furnishings and the unique down lights on the exposed brick walls, Wolfe Lane makes it very hard to disappoint.

The decor alone is enough to summon a swarm of suits and a whole world of culture into one venue. The main floor itself is rather spacey and perfect for accommodating your full entourage. The actual bar is slightly raised and a second private floor is just elevated above that. There you will notice the DJ spinning his low-down post modernish house tracks. I rocked up on a Friday evening and it was not really surprising that I was swimming in a sea of business and executive type patrons. I could only assume it was the classy after work crew saying their farewells to the working week by getting their drinks on. Well in that case, I'll drink to that - cheers!

After a few minutes of watching and observing the crowd of 20-30 something year olds sipping their cocktails and drinks around me, I think it's about time for this undercover clubber to hit the bar. I decided to begin with a fail proof Mojito swiftly followed by a Peroni. All cocktails start from $15 and everything else is all reasonably priced around the $10 mark. The cocktails are immaculately presented and even tastier than it looks. Trust me on this one.

There was a casual yet highbrow vibe in the air. Maybe it was the crowd, or perhaps even the pretentious decor. Either way, when you combine these elements together you are left with a place that will have you confirming a return trip. However, I shall leave it to the owner of Wolfe Lane to have the last words about the exclusivity of this venue: "It means that people need to look for you a bit, and they need to actually know what you're about and actually want to be at your venue."

Ok I lied. Maybe he can have the second to last words. See you there folks.
