Review of City Nightclub

Review by Laura Fazekas

This venue does not disappoint. City Nightclub is located in the heart of Hindley Street in the old Earth Nightclub. Now, Earth was never the coolest or busiest place to hang out, but City has definitely changed that around. City has marketed itself fabulously in Adelaide and changed the reputation around.

City Nightclub has many great features and new technology that other Adelaide clubs are lacking, including floor to ceiling LED walls, wicked DJ booths, big stage dancing areas, 3 staggered levels and ample seating space. As you enter off Hindley Street and take the short walk door the corridor, you are greeted by more security and door girls who take your $10, give you a massive stamp and allow you enter.

The bottom level of City is called Oxygen and is located in the basement near the toilets. This does seem confusing but it is how the layout had to be I guess. When I was there late on a Saturday night, Oxygen was quite empty and quiet. There is a DJ playing house music, but I feel a bit sorry for the poor guy as no one was dancing or interacting, let alone listening. A few of my friends would hang out there for a quiet break or some cocktails, and there was a couple making out quite excessively in the corner...

But onto the upstairs: this is where I spent most of my time as it is the largest and busiest floor with the best DJ and awesome lighting. There are huge chandeliers throughout the whole place which give City an awesome, classy feel and the layout is spacious and very new.

Heading up again to the mezzanine 3rd floor, this is where a lot of cultures mix for RnB. There is a VIP section, lots of seating around the edges cool toilets which look like they are in an elevator and more monster LED screens to marvel at.

As for the drinks, City offers some specials which run all night, including 2 vodkas for $10 and $5 Fresh Pussies! The bars are large and well equipped with staff and alcohol so I didn't have to line up for long at all to get what I wanted. The crowd was very mixed with everyone from around Adelaide wanting to try this new club out, and I am very glad I did! Finally, a great sized club in Hindley which offers a nicer range of people, music and atmosphere, but doesn't cost a fortune in money or time to get in to. I got too used to the dingy old places along Hindley and the lovely people they bring with them, but City offers a new perspective on clubbing in Adelaide. Any new nightclub is great for Adelaide, especially a big one like this which I know will get a big following.
