Caringbah Hotel Review

Review By Lauren Bleasdale

No matter where you go in the Sutherland Shire, if you’re a local you will undoubtedly run into someone you know. The Cazbah, as it’s known to locals, is no exception as it seems to be a popular place with an older crowd, especially on a Sunday afternoon when the Cronulla Sharks are playing. Even though my friends and I were quite obviously the youngest, we felt right at home with the parents of our friends and acquaintances.

After a quick circulation of the hotel we established that it was basically a nicely decorated pub, with a lounge bar and a separate Bistro all equipped with numerous TVs providing live footage of the footy. Before the game we sat in the sun-flooded beer garden and ordered a round of Coronas and a steak each, taking full advantage of their Sunday specials.

We then settled into the lounge bar and secured ourselves prime seats for the game as well as a seemingly endless stream of $8 cocktails between 3 and 5pm. Personally, I favour Cosmos but I also strongly recommend their Mojito.

For a pub, the range of drinks they offer is impressive and if we were to try all of them we’d probably be leaving in an ambulance. It’s also a bonus that the area that the cocktails are served in is very nice and gives the hotel a point of difference to most pubs and RSLs. The lounges in the lounge bar were surprisingly comfortable and the room is spacious, modern and clean with ample seating and large plasma televisions on most of the walls.

Being a Sharkies fan myself, I found the atmosphere incredible, the crowd was excited and electric at the prospect of winning (a rare occurrence for Cronulla), but it never reached the point of rowdy or out of control. The afternoon turned into a big celebration and we left with full stomachs, full wallets and huge smiles.

Cheap Coronas + cheap steaks + $0 entry fee + Sharkies smashing the Bulldogs = best Sunday afternoon out I’ve had in a while.
