There are some weird bars in Australia, some of which are well known, whereas others are more of a “you know them if you know them” kind of situation.
Here are 4 of Australia’s most unusual bars:
1. State Of Grace
This is a nice little bar in Melbourne, land of the hipster, reasonable public transportation and some odd ass bars. This one has that long sought after, and much promised, but little delivered prize of all Scooby-Doo episodes. That’s right. A secret staircase, leading from a hidden bookcase to a secret bar underneath called “Fall from Grace”. The name alone is appealing enough, but with the extra, added, bonus, gift, prize of the satisfaction of a childhood fantasy its too good to miss out on.
2. White Rabbit
This bar is in my hometown, Canberra, land of roundabouts, politicians and one of the best places to live in Australia. This bar capitalises on the eternal fascination that we as a culture have with Alice In Wonderland, cocktails in teapots, old fashioned decor and themed food. This pub is like the inside of a literature professor’s mind, but perhaps slightly more alcoholic.
3. Bobeche Bar
This bar comes from Perth, land of being very far away from me, (selfish descriptor but what are you gonna do). If its one thing that people love more than things that are themed like Alice In Wonderland, its things that are themed like speakeasies. Yes, the appeal of not being able to drink alcohol (and therefore the rebellion that comes from doing so anyway) without the hideous reality.
4. Stitch Bar
Sydney, land of being fairly close to be and therefore convenient (thanks for that). This bar is 1940s tailor themed, which is convenient for all those folks out there that wanted to get gently legged in surroundings that are better than who they are as people. So clearly this is an ideal setting for me.
