It’s great rocking out to the latest tunes at your favourite nightclub; but there are a few golden oldies that just get your body shaking and force you to hit the dance floor every time you hear them.
Silence by Delirium ft. Sarah McLachlan (the Tiesto Remix) - this song was smash club hit before Tiesto got his talented hands all over it; but what can we say, the guy’s got the Midas touch, and this remix is proof of that.
Another Chance by Roger Sanchez - there’s something about this song that makes us stop while we’re on the dance floor and reminisce about a love we once lost. Apart from it’s ability to get your body moving, it can also strike a chord deep inside us (this works especially well after a few drinks!)
Castles in the Sky by Ian Van Dahl - with lyrics like “do you ever question your life” and “do you ever see in your dreams..all the castles in the sky”, this 2001 hit was bound to resonate with clubbers; and it still, to this day, does.
Insomnia by Faithless - “I can’t get no sleep” We’ve had enough nights out to know that all that has to come out of nightclub speakers are these 5 words and the whole place will automatically start pumping!
Rhythm is a Dancer by Snap - with a definite 90′s beat and feel, who knows why this song by German group Snap has stood the test of time when others have fallen by the wayside - but all we know is that we’re glad it has.
Rapture by Iio - the beginning of this song has got to be the best part of the entire tune - goose-bump material. Released in 2001 by New York Duo Iio, then later re-released by Iio front-women Nadia Ali, Rapture shot into the top 10 in 6 countries.
I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston (Remixed) - the late Miss Houstan had many a hit, but this one is defiantly the most synonymous with the club scene. Unfortunately this is more of a girls club hit, as it resonates with all the lonely ladies out there dancing by themselves on the dance floor….
Sandstorm by Darude - Undoubtedly 1 of the most amazing club tracks ever released. This is evident in the fact that 10 years after its release, in 2010, The Recording Industry of America certified this hit Gold, after selling over 500,000 copies.
You’re the One that I Want by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta - sure it’s an oldie but this smash hit from the 1978 movie Grease, not only made every girl wanna go out and buy a pair of black leather pants, but is still a sensation when played in nightclubs today.
You See the Trouble With Me by Black Legend - Barry White’s voice just makes you wanna take your clothes off doesn’t it….and this song, is no different. However, this song was originally released in 1976, but didn’t turn into a massive club track until Black Legend re-recorded the song sans Barry White because he had not given permission to use his voice. Whomever sings it, this hit is, and probably always be, one which gets the crowds pumped during a night out on the town.
