Bass in the Grass is Darwin’s version of Big Day Out, without the spray tans! This year the festival turns 10, and to celebrate its birthday, the line-up is going to be the biggest and the best ever. BNG is a collaborative project between the Northern Territory Government and The Northern Territory Major Events Company. While it is only 10 years old the progession of the festival has moved at extreme paces.
There was a time, within the last decade, when BNG only had one or two worthy names on the line-up. Event organisers even invited former Australian Idol contestant, Lee Harding once. What an insult - apparently the crowd just threw stuff at him.
Bit by bit the line-up has been getting better, kind of like an ageing wine. As the festival matures, and the Government’s attitude relaxes, we finally have an event dominated by hip-hop.
