If you’re not too hung-over from Australia Day Eve celebrations and want to continue celebrating Australia Day 2012, here is a short rundown of what will be happening in your neck of the woods. We’ve taken the trouble of going through events and finding you the hottest parties to get blind to - and trust us, there’s a lot!
Melbourne’s Prince Bandroom gives us Majik Entertainment’s Pleasure Island. Located at 29 Fitzroy St, St Kilda, the Prince will be decked out like…you guessed it, a pleasure island. According to Majik, it will be an exotic paradise with palm trees, coconuts, waves, a shore, butterflies, hummingbirds and a rainforest! Okay, maybe not, but you get the gist.
Focusing on Trance and Electro/House, the lineup includes international guests Marcel Woods, Kyau & Albert and Greg Downey. Local talent includes MaRLo, Papa Smurf, DJ Kat, Jewelz, Polyfonik, Orkestrated, Heath Renata and Stevie Mink.
Apparently they claim that all of your fantasies will come true at Pleasure Island, which should make for a very interesting night.
Sydney’s Ivy is holding a Courtyard Party presented by the folks at Swerve Productions. Located at Level 1, 330 George Street, Sydney, the party features Nadastrom (USA), Bombs Away, Yolanda Be Cool and Starfuckers. Other acts include Peking Duk, Oakes & Lennox, The Mane Thing, Go Freek and Swiss Dub.
Beginning at 1pm, there will be $5 drinks between 1-3pm just to get you started. And whenever hunger strikes and in keeping with the great Aussie tradition, there will be an all day BBQ fired up.
For all you Fremantle ragers, Sunset Events & Limelite present Club Paradiso. It will be held at Salt on the Beach, 42 Port Beach Road, North Fremantle from 12pm. Focusing on House, Progressive House and Trance beats, the talent will be an all Aussie extravaganza.
The Stafford Brothers, tyDi and Hook n Sling will be spinning tunes by the beach, minus the sand of course.
Australia’s most successful trance DJ tyDi will be giving clubbers a strong dose of Trance and Progressive House. Hook n Sling has had amazing remix successes for Calvin Harris, the Ministry of Sound Annual 2010 and gigs at Pascha, Space Ibiza and Global Gathering.
Local W.A. DJs such as Mel B, KNO Agents, Wasteland and Zelimir will be spinning for your listening pleasure. It’s going to be a biggie…
Tasmanians! After searching high and low, Hobart came up with the goods.
Halo Nightclub in Elizabeth St Mall will celebrate Australia Day with Triple J’s’ Hottest 100 Party. The doors open at midday and there will be $4 spirits and beer all day….that’s right people, ALL DAY. Well that’s something to look forward to. So get in there all you Hobartians and enjoy the fun.
Brisbane is the pick of the bunch this year all because of one man – Andy C. The master of Drum ‘n’ Bass is brought to us by the teams at Loaded Dice, Rukus and Rescued. Playing at The Met at 256 Wickham St, Fortitude Valley, Andy C’s Heavyweight Soundz Tour also gives us MC GQ, CAMO & KROOKED and FIERCE all on the main stage.
The Met is perfect for this gathering as it has the latest sound and lighting technology, a plasma screen wall, dancing cages (for contrast), three rooms and five bars. Opening from 8pm, this night should not be missed. Andy C is the ultimate Drum’n’Bass DJ you will ever experience, guaranteed.
Moving right along to Darwin. Monsoons nightclub at 46 Mitchell St, Darwin, is hosting an Aussie BBQ, Triple J’s Hottest 100 and Aussie giveaways during the day. Once night falls, it will become Monsoons Ladies Night with ‘Special Guest performers, Amateur and professional shows, Mon Cheri, DJs/MCs’. Wow, they don’t mess about.
Canberra is having an Australian Day Afternoon at Mooseheads Pub & Nightclub. Listen to the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, share in the free pool, free BBQ and free entry – geez they’re generous! FYI, the first 100 people who arrive dressed up will receive a free drink voucher. Just coz they can. DJ’s Ryhno & Crew will also be keeping you company.
Last but not least, Adelaide’s Crown & Sceptre (located at 308 King William St) will host a Hottest 100 Party from 8-11pm. Highlights include Hottest 100 Bingo, $10 Schnitzel’s all day, free entry, cheap booze until 8pm, DJ Bos with live sax and half price cocktails/Vodka Redbull from 8pm. You know you want to.
Don’t just sit at home, get out there once again and celebrate being in the best country in the world. C’mon Aussie C’mon!
