Fitzroy bar Sentido Funf plans to show off its Aussie pride over both Australia Day Eve and Australia Day with a variety of booze and grub on offer. Celebrations kick off on Australia Day Eve (Wednesday, January 25th 2012) at 4pm starting out with late afternoon drinks with drink specials consisting of $25 Buckets o’Beer for the blokes, $5 Sparkles for the sheilas, perhaps making the $6 Lamington Shots the unisex drink special.
The DJ will start cranking tunes at 6pm to get the crowds pumping. There is a reasonable chance considering it’s Australia Day Eve that you will hear a few Aussie classics along the lines of ‘Great Southern Land’ and ‘Land Down Under’, either of which could be considered the unofficial Australian national anthem. Well, they should be played anyway, because that would just be un-Australian, especially for an Australia Day celebration!
And of course, Sentido Funf is also open for the big day itself, Australia Day (Thursday, January 26th 2012). Doors open at 2pm for patrons to try some of the grab on offer in the Happy Wings special, which contains a $10 plate of deep-fried wings, smothered in either Cajun spices, Honey Soy, or Frank’s Hot Sauce. Some may question the serving of these foods on Australia Day, believing a barbie or Four’N Twenty pies might be more Aussie, but I guess the staff at Sentido Funf thought a barbie or meat pies were considered “commoner food” (Sentido Funf is a Fitzroy bar after all, with a reputation of classiness to uphold).
After 6pm, the DJ will work their musical magic as the place will fill up with patrons wanting to celebrate the land down under (cue the many chants of “Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi!”).
