In my opinion, Australia Day is almost better than Christmas Day. Practically the entire country celebrates this beautiful land in unison…plus it’s another excuse to get ridiculously drunk, and have a ridiculously crazy Aussie Day party. But before you start sending Facey invites, here’s a few tips to help get you through the day and night—because Christ knows if it’s an Australia Day party, it’s going to get pretty wild.
Have you got plans for Australia Day yet? The iconic day of sun, sausages and Smirnoff is one of the most alcoholic holidays of the year, surpassing Valentine’s Day and even New Years (probably..). If you’re not hitting up Big Day Out, Ivy or Greenwood for Australia Day celebrations, well good, I’ll tell you what you should be doing.
Being in denial is a bit pathetic, but like everything else, if two or three other people are doing it too then it’s okay. Lucky then that the majority of nightclub patrons are experts in the art of being in denial and you will not feel alone or pathetic in your endeavour to ignore responsibility and routine.
I had high hopes for Big Day Out this year for two reasons: the Red Hot Chili Peppers were headlining and it had been seven friggin’ years since my last BDO in 2006. The better part of a decade has gone by since that show, and since I enjoyed the previous one so much, you can imagine how angsty I was to go back.
In light of today being Australia Day, of course most of us are going to be on the piss all day long and well into the night once we hit the bars and nightclubs throughout this country. It’s an Australian tradition!
But like any other night when you’re out hitting the booze where there’s plenty of other people, of course either the blokes or the sheilas will catch your eye.
What’s Australia Day without the classic anthems that the oldies and possibly the youngin’s grew up with? Music is music, if you’re anything like me I can listen to any genre and be happy with it, whatever kills that awkward silence that somehow always happens is good.
Constant partying in the CBD of Sydney can sometimes get old, and a change of tradition is in order, especially because on Saturday it’s Australia Day! Just imagine all the bars and clubs, they are going to be jam packed with sweaty drunks, probably wearing not much more then the Australian flag! Eh, it’s a celebration, get amongst it!
