What’s Australia Day without the classic anthems that the oldies and possibly the youngin’s grew up with? Music is music, if you’re anything like me I can listen to any genre and be happy with it, whatever kills that awkward silence that somehow always happens is good.
Australia Day is all about traditions so lets remember the good ol’ anthems that help us celebrate the 26th of January every year!
Drum roll please … And the Top 10 are:
Number 1: Advance Australia Fair (it’s a classic)
Number 2: ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ by Peter Allen
Number 3: ‘Waltzing Matilda’ by Andrew ‘Banjo’ Patterson
Number 4: ‘Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport’ by Rolf Harris
Number 5: ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ by Wally Johnson and Bob Brown
Number 6: ‘True Blue’ by John Williamson
Number 7: ‘Down Under’ by Men At Work
Number 8: ‘I’ve Been Everywhere’ by Geoff Mack
Number 9: ‘Great Southern Land’ by Icehouse
Number 10: ‘G’day G’day’ by Slim Dusty
Yes, these are the classics and don’t worry party people there will be all that regular club music later on in the night. Just make sure you remember your classics and have a good old sing to them, chances are you will anyway because you will be intoxicated! And everyone knows when that happens, karaoke is your best friend and you suddenly know the words to every song. Enjoy!
What’s on the agenda for Australia Day? I know a few options, of course they are the traditional Australia Day activities!
- Backyard cricket
- BBQ with the boys or girls
- A piss up in someone’s backyard
- Head to your nearest water facility; whether it be the lake, dam or pool
- Karaoke, drunk of course … who wants to hear a sober person sing?
- Dressing up in anything Australian
- Go to the pub with your mates
Those are just a few ideas, I’m pretty certain there are many more crazy, wild ideas out there! I know that I wouldn’t mind buying a blow up pool, sitting in it with an ice cold beer in my hand!
My day would be set, how about yours?
