When starting a new job, it’s crucial that you build good relationships and one of the best ways to bond is by going out for drinks with your fellow colleagues. However, there are a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to going out with your new mates.
1. Don’t Drink Too Much
While it’s great to have the stories where you can’t remember half the night and you woke up on a play equipment two suburbs from your house, these aren’t the kind of experiences you want on your first night out with your work friends. Sure, in a couple of months, go for it, but first impressions really do last.
2. Don’t Hook Up With Anyone
This is mostly for girls, because unfortunately with our double standards you will be labelled a hoe. But this is mostly because you’ve just started a new job, you don’t want to make things awkward or get a negative reputation. Boys, if you hook up with a girl on the first night and she was average, you might not be able to hook up with the hot one later.
3. Consume Some Alcohol
In saying don’t drink too much, it doesn’t mean don’t drink at all. Know your limits, but down a few with your new buds to show your commitment to the group.
4. Dress Appropriately
Don’t look like a knob, snob, skank, dick etc. It will be remembered.
5. Be Outgoing
Get involved in conversations, don’t be a wallflower. Make friends and most of all have fun!
Tip: Reputations and friendships can be recovered if you screw up your first outing with your colleagues, but try not to because that would be taking a step backward.
