Drinking is always a good idea, says everyone before the hangover kicks in. Yet we always seem to forget that drinking before working the next day is NEVER a good idea. But, we’ve all been there. At the time, work seems so far away and a fun night out sounds more enticing. That is, until morning arrives and we have to drag ourselves to work feeling, looking and smelling like shit. So here is a list of ways to handle a hangover at work. Don’t worry, the working day will soon end and you’ll be home in bed, lying in the foetal position praying you’ll never drink again.
1. Call in sick. (Ha, just kidding). Drag your sorry butt out of bed and straight into the shower. No employer wants an alcohol-drenched employee working for their company.
2. BRUSH YOUR TEETH! Maybe the most important task of the day. Your employer, fellow employees and customers will thank you.
3. Pop some aspirin, Nurofen or Panadol and drink a big glass of water, or three.
4. Grab (or buy) a Beroccca or Hydralyte. Your body is severely dehydrated and lacking in vitamins. Coffee and coke also work too. The fizziness in coke helps with nausea, the caffeine and sugar will help you feel more lively. Also drink orange juice. Vitamin C needs to be replaced within your body ASAP!
5. EAT! Your body needs something to soak up the remaining alcohol. Try Vegemite on toast. Vegemite on toast is salty and full of Vitamin B. If you can’t stomach that or hate Vegemite, just dry toast will do. Eat a banana, it’s full of potassium and helps with the nausea. (Then go and repeat step 2).
6. Once at work, try and drink as much liquid during the day as possible. Your body is dehydrated and needs to flush out the toxins, a.k.a. alcohol.
7. Try and smile. Smiling or laughing is proven to boost your mood. So although you wish you were anywhere but work, smiling will help make the day go quicker. Also, try and avoid harsh lights and loud music (if you can at your work). Your eyes will be sensitive as will your ears.
8. Try not to move too fast to avoid upsetting the stomach, head, bladder. Take more Panadol after four hours if needed.
9. Remember to keep eating. It increases the metabolism, activates alcohol absorption and increases the speed in which the body processes alcohol.
10. Drink more coffee or soft drink as needed to keep you awake and alive at work.
11. Finally, once your day at work is through, go home and SLEEP. Your body needs rest to repair itself and forget the pain you put it through (until next time).
