Money controls our lives sometimes. We need it to survive. Since being at uni and now working full-time in my first professional job, I find it hard to have enough money to go out and splurge a little, and I’m sure there are a few of you in the same boat. Going out can be very expensive, especially if you are like me and buy something new to wear, drink spirits (which can be up to $10 each) and catch a taxi to the outer suburbs from the city. This can all cost hundreds of dollars (I’m not kidding!). So I decided to give you a few tips on how to go out on a budget.
Share a taxi with friends or catch the train: Pre plan and see how many of you need a way to get to the venue. Sharing a cab with people that live close to you will save you a lot on a fare or you could even all meet at the one house. Catching the train is also a great way to get to where you want to go if it is close to walk to.
Pre-drink and eat before you go out: Drinks and food is a killer for our wallets on a night out. Everything expensive looks so tantalising and it is hard to say no. Have some snack foods with friends at home before you go or have a meal so you can resist those mega munchies, well at least until the way home. Having some pre-drinks at home will save you heaps as hopefully you won’t need to buy as much when you are out.
Reuse an outfit or borrow an outfit from a friend: Do we always need to buy something new? No! There are always other options. Raid your cupboard or borrow that dress or shirt that your mate has which you love. I’m sure they would love to do a swap and wear something of yours.
Don’t bring out your bank card: This is my biggest enemy! Just when you think your savings is safe. The dreaded iphone rears its ugly head and lets you do internet banking. A few too many drinks could be the end of your savings. Just make sure you remember to get money out before you go.
It’s funny how as soon as a night out commences our brain turns a switch and we act like we are made of money. That is until the next day when we look at our accounts and are in shock as to how much was spent.
Put these few tips into motion and your bank account will thank you.
