Australia’s favourite music festival, ‘The Big Day Out’, this week announced partnership with C3 Presents, a US based promotions agency renowned for Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival.
The deal comes after a tough year for BDO, with the festival announcing major changes in both venues and headliners after tickets were purchased for the 2012 shows.
And now another change?
The partner in crime, C3, experienced rapid expansion in the music festival industry after successfully creating ties between the US and South American market.
The company will work with the Big Day Out to create a similar success story, focusing attention on Trans-Pacific relationships, and encouraging opportunities for international artists at the festival.
With yet another fundamental adjustment for Big Day Out, some fans are questioning the festival’s decision to globalise an iconic Australian festival franchise.
Despite American icon Kanye West’s position as a headliner this year, ticket sales were dismal.
And so we ask ourselves, will a change in the direction of the US be a good thing?
Founder of Australia’s Big Day Out, Ken West remains adamant that the change is positive.
“I am really happy to be able to announce this new partnership,” he said.
After the blunder of Ken West’s venue and artist decisions last year, the youth of Australia are apprehensive.
Can we embrace the globalisation of our favourite home grown festival?
Only time will tell.
