The famous Big Day Out festival will now be offered exclusively in Australia. The last show to be held in Auckland, New Zealand will be this coming Friday, according to organisers. A Twitter post was released that stated “This year will be New Zealand’s last Big Day Out. Come party with us this Friday. It’s been an amazing 18 years here in Auckland.” This confirmed the news that most festival goers were dreading.
It is said that the festival (that has been running for 18 years in Auckland) is simply finding it hard to cover costs. With ticket sales plummeting and the concert being downsized has unfortunately ended the long lived Auckland romance with The Big Day Out. Global star Kane West dropped out of the event, which could have added to the poor ticket sales.
Acts for this coming Friday include an array of different acts including: award winning Kimbra, The Living End and Girl Talk. Skating legend Tony Hawk will also be grazing the stage on the Guvera skate ramp.
