Over spring we work so hard to get our bodies ready for summer. Then summer hits and all our good work is ruined by the bottomless beverages we guzzle down through the warmer months.
There is nothing worse than having to de-robe at the beach after a boozy night (or month) of sugary drinks that have left your body feely giggly and sluggish. Sugar is often forgotten as being full of calories, and if you’re drinking 10+ drinks a night that is at least 2,500 calories, and you haven’t even eaten yet!
I too have my fair amount of alcohol over the silly season and I have put together a few cheeky recipes so we can still do this but minus those extra unwanted calories. I will show you how to put together tasty drinks with as little as 60 calories per serve.
The trick is to ditch the sugary mixers. They are the problem! A shot of vodka alone is only 55 calories, but when you add the lemonade in all its sugary glory it puts the drink up to over 250 calories. Chose the low sugar options or use a tonic or soda water.
Skinny mini Mojito:
1 shot of vodka or light rum
Juice of half a lime
Dash of sugar free lime cordial
Soda water
Ice
Mint sprigs
Muddle mint to bring out its flavour. Add all ingredients and shake with ice.
Serve with a few sprigs of mint to garnish. Depending on your preference you can add as much mint as you like.
No-guilt Gin and Tonic
1 Shot of gin
Juice of half a lime
Slice of lime
Soda water
Ice
Splash of sugar free lime cordial (if you want a bit more sweetness)
Shake all ingredients together with ice and garnish with lime.
Slimline Fruit tingle
1 shot of Blue Curacao
30 ml sugar free red cordial
Sugar free lemonade
Ice
Mix together and add lots of ice.
If you want a basic drink just swap your sugary mixers like coke and juice for the sugar free soft drinks or cordial, like Scotch and diet coke or Vodka and sugar free raspberry. If you are a beer drinker, try the low carb options.
You can still enjoy summer nights sipping on refreshments, but switch to a option better for your waistline, that still tantalizes your tastebuds.
