Iconic US music site, Billboard.com has this week published it’s much awaited annual ‘Yearend’ music chart, revealing the most popular artists and releases for the year of 2011.
Statistics were compiled from weekly and bi-weekly charts during the strict eligibility period of December 4, 2020 to November 26, 2020.
Lists compiled from the annual survey include; ‘Hot 100 Singles’, ’200 Top Albums’, ‘Top Pop Artists’, ‘Top Country Artists’ and ‘Top RnB/Hip Hop Artists’.
Pop singer ‘Adele’ proved to be this year’s surprise success story, having made Billboard chart history. The star took out the number one spot for both top single and top album, whilst also having been voted as the site’s Top Pop Artist for 2011.
Smash hit ‘Rolling in The Deep’, along with the singer’s debut album ’21′ were quiet achiever’s in the poll, modestly taking out the loud, often crass stylings of shock-jock artists Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
“I don’t really need to stand out, there’s room for everyone” the 22-year old said.
Other winners in the round-up of this year’s best include Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, with female successes saturating the charts in all genres.
The unpredicted charts of 2011 reveal a shift in the music arena towards the classical and country genres, a transition the music world has not seen for decades.
