I’m not a big techno fan by any stretch of the imagination, I’m definitely more of a rock guy. I went to the Royal Melbourne Hotel‘s Bang! night two weeks earlier, with a cover band playing the likes of Green Day and Blink 182, so when I went to see techno DJ Max Cooper strut his stuff on the turntable, I knew I might as well have been in a whole other nightclub.
How friggin’ annoying is it when you’re out in town trying to have an awesome night, drinking away, then you feel a vibration and noise from your pocket, and it’s your mobile telling you that its battery is “critically low”? Not only can’t you show your friends that funny video on YouTube you’ve been dying to show them or take selfies, but you might not be able to call a taxi to get home?
Is anybody having the same issue as me? I go to a club all like, “Hey yeah, cool, ready for a good time, had some pre-drinks, ready for a bit of a party.” Get inside, look around and think, “Hold up. Why did the bouncers let me in, I’m so wasted, I think I am in the ’90s.” And then I’m not wasted because I realise any self respecting, educated, sober person would easily mistake many a Melbourne club for the ’90s.
Proving Australians are not kangaroo riding bogans who put beer on their breakfast cereal to members of the international community is a constant battle. But it is. Especially when we have people like T-Rex Abbott in Parliament and when this guy is a YouTube sensation.

Whiskey is one of those drinks that has its own subculture, where its enthusiasts are ones able to take the drink’s stiffness and know the finer points of what separates the good stuff from the cheap rubbish. Melbourne whiskey drinkers can now revel in all things whiskey at Whiskey And Alement, a brand new whiskey bar on Russell Street.
Future Music is an all day event of endless doosh doosh music and shirtless gym junkies showing off their ripped chest and chicken legs. So a good time for all then. But something that often gets neglected to be mentioned is all the drinking that everyone will be doing. Granted, it’s all about the music, but still.
Brunswick’s Sydney Road is always a happening place, full of hustle and bustle, and hipsters. This busy street’s always quite a sight when people get together to party on Friday and Saturday nights, but The Penny Black have gone all out with their annual Sydney Road Street Party.
