Oceanside Bar (Mullaloo Beach Hotel) Review

Review by Shannon Wood

Taking full advantage of its panoramic ocean views, the Oceanside bar is a classy and modern venue offering an extensive range of cocktails and wines, as well as local and international beers and spirits.

Located in the beachside suburb of Mullaloo, this place is popular with the young locals. With a relaxed, beachside vibe, the open and modern décor presents a chilled out atmosphere for young and old alike. Mid-week this venue is an ideal place to catch up with a group of friends for a quiet drink, on the weekend it is more of a Club type venue, offering a large dance floor, DJs and disco lighting.

The traditional Sunday Session is a well renowned Australian ritual, and there is no better place to spend it than by the ocean. Sunday sessions are what Mullaloo is known for, attracting some of the hottest DJs from around the world, and this place is always packed on a hot summer’s weekend. You most likely won’t find anyone over the age of thirty here on a Sunday; it’s very much dominated by fashionable youngsters, keen to catch up with friends and see some of latest DJs.

Drinks here are slightly more expensive than your average bar, due to the beachside location. Cocktails are a standard $15, and there is an extensive selection, including classics such as the Long Island Iced Tea, Mojito, and Cosmopolitan. Wine is priced at about $20- $30 a bottle, which I consider very reasonable.

Mid-week the Oceanside bar has food and drink specials: for example, Wednesdays are $10 Pizza nights and $6 Pure Blond pints, and Thursdays are $10 ribs night, so it’s best to check out their website or Facebook page for current specials.

On the day I visited the Oceanside Bar it was bright and sunny, and we sat on the balcony, with amazing ocean views. The bar service was friendly and helpful, and the place soon filled up with a mix of people. The only issue I had was the road below was quite busy, and somewhat distracts you from the peaceful surroundings.

Patrons here were dressed quite elegantly in heels and dresses, and men in dress shirts and leather shoes. The dress code here is smart casual, so you won’t find people walking in off the beach after a swim.

If you’re looking for a place north of the river to party on a Sunday, then you cannot go past the Oceanside Bar. Alternatively if you’re looking for a classy mid-week drink with friends, or a nice place to take a date, this place is a winner.
