A picture is worth 1,000 words, and after all if you don’t have any photos showing what a great time you had, why did you even bother going out? From such a technologically driven and social media focused generation, you’ll find that almost every time you do something of note there will be a designated photo time.
Nights out are the best opportunity for this as everyone is looking their hottest and on their A game. It’s your time to show your ex that you are hotter, cooler, and more fun than he could ever hope to be. So without further ado, here are a few tips on how to get the best happy snaps during your night out.
1. Candid Is Key
While posed photos can look just as striking, candid photos do something that posed never does. They pick up on the spirit and the atmosphere, it is infectious and anyone looking at a fun candid photo can see that. If you need further convincing check out V-J Day in Times Square… You know, the photo with the sailor kissing the nurse after the end of the war against Japan was announced. Anyway, you can always take one for the team and take pics of your friends laughing at something or dancing together. Maybe they’ll get the hint and do the same for you. Otherwise you can always fake it till you make it.
2. Facetune
Kidding… But seriously, sometimes the best photos are ruined by that damn double chin, bloated tummy, or that larger than life pimple that you can’t shake off. It does cost a pretty penny at $5.99 from the app store, but I promise it’ll be the best $5.99 you’ve ever spent. And once you master your editing skills, not even bung eyes will be safe. You’ll look flawless in every light… Not that you don’t already.
3. Lights Off, Flash On
If you want the secret to having a healthy tanned glow in your photos, this is it. Find a dark corner and turn on that flash. You’re skin will come out looking 3 shades darker without any spray tan necessary. A little tip for the girls out there: if your “translucent” face setting powder contains titanium dioxide or your foundation contains high amounts of SPF, you may want to avoid flashes. Titanium dioxide is a chemical typically used in sunscreen to reflect light, and therefore camera flashes too. So to avoid clashing that sexy tanned skin with a ghost white face I’d switch powders and foundations. Invest in a setting spray, or just use hairspray.
4. Know Your Good Angle, Your Good Side, And The Good Lighting
Know your strengths and use them. Bad lighting is too often seen as the downfall of potentially great photos. Don’t be afraid to experiment, and getting a good angle is just as imperative as using good lighting. If you think that taking a picture from below eye level is attractive, you’re kidding yourself. You might as well pose with a double chin on purpose.
5. Don’t Stop Snapping
Although I don’t particularly mean post on Snapchat constantly, it can be an effective tool to use for getting that perfect photo. Especially since they have installed that permanent filter that makes your skin look pearly and flawless (although granted somewhat unrealistic in some lights). The secret of any amateur photographer is that the more photos you take, the more likely you are to like one of them. I get it, sometimes it’s hard to take get a nice photo, you just feel gross and unphotogenic. Well it’s time to push through. Taking an unnecessarily large amount of photos may seem a bit OTT, but it will be worth it in the end. It’s not a waste if you come out with 3 nice selfies and 2 great group shots.
