So I’m watching Entertainment Tonight featuring the Golden Globes and the stars look gorgeous, they’re wearing their designer dresses, shoes and jewelry. My question is, when are girls allowed to skank it up? Obviously not at the Golden Globes, can you imagine the headlines ‘Mila Kunis bares all’? I know the guys would be glued to the TV and drooling over the remote. HOWEVER, it wouldn’t be suitable at the event.
This is a perfect example to relate to for ‘ordinary’ people; you know, the ones who aren’t in the spotlight. We can skank it up all the time, but should we? No one thinks highly of you if you’re wearing shorts shorter than your vagina.
What about those cocktail dresses that cling to your ass and slowly rise up every time you dance or stand up? Would you call that skanking it up or just a casual Saturday night?
I conducted a Facebook question poll and asked: When is it okay to skank it up? Here’s some of the answers I received:
1. Your shift at the strip club
2. Theme parties where it requires you to dress as a skank
3. Halloween
4. Nightclubs
5. Role play with your boyfriend
6. Whenever they want
7. When you have no self respect
8. Age appropriate
I suppose this topic comes down to your own opinion. Society today is full of new trends and opinions; these days we are showing more and wearing less, but it all comes down to your confidence and whether you let peoples opinions run your life.
And may I add there is a difference between dressing like a skank and looking sexy. You might be wearing a short, tight dress but if you wear your strong, confident, sexy personality and flaunt it, you can’t go wrong! There’s nothing wrong with that.
But there is something wrong with a 14-year-old dressing as if they’re older, that’s just wrong and looking at them feels like a crime. Can anyone say “jail bait”?
So bottom line is, everyone has their own personal look and preference. The term ‘skanking it up’ shouldn’t exist, as no matter what you wear someone will criticise you, but if you feel confident and happy then flaunt it!
Each to their own, wear what pleases you and not what pleases others.
