How many times have you heard a girl say how one of her friends should be paired up with one of her boyfriend’s friends and “how cute” it’d be? My girlfriend once had the “brilliant idea” to pair up one of her friends with one of mine. One night my girlfriend and I were invited by her friend to go to a party at Room 680, and my girlfriend told me to invite my friend. In the end, it did not work out well, at all! I’ll get into that in a moment, but there are plenty of good reasons why it makes sense to matchmake friends as well as bad ones.
The Good
1. In theory, matchmaking friends is a cool idea. You can all hang out even more than you already do in a group. From the males’ perspective, having at least these two girls with you when going clubbing is pretty much a surefire way to make sure the bouncer doesn’t bar you. Seems very How I Met Your Mother-like to me (in a good way).
2. I think it’s safe to say that most of the time this sort of thing has happened, it was the girl’s idea to set them up. Boys don’t think like that. Many of those guys will roll their eyes at such an idea, and they may even try to talk their girl out of it. But trust me, girls are very insistent on shit like this, romance is a powerful thing that they want others as well as themselves to experience. So if you’re a guy with a girl wanting to pair up her mate with yours, it’s like if you take them to a nice restaurant or sit through them trying on different clothes, they’ll love you for it. And the reward can be quite epic…
The Bad
1. What if the friend you’re trying to set up brings a good looking friend whom the person they’re supposed to be set up with likes instead? Sounds farfetched, but this is exactly why the time my friend met my girlfriend’s friend went bad. His friend was a good looking guy who was tall and muscly, the type of guy all girls like. Essentially, he was an alpha male. So if the girl sees a guy she finds more attractive and he pays no attention to her, she’ll crack the shits and start bawling her eyes out, making your girlfriend have to console her all night. The male’s friend will also feel annoyed about essentially being ignored. (Damn you alpha males and your good looks!). So if you plan on setting up friends, make sure one of their doesn’t bring their better looking friend along! I can’t stress this enough!
2. Chances are there’s going to be a party or something where one person tells their partner to invite their friends, and then that friend sees someone they thought they hook up with at a club, but didn’t. If you all ever hang out together again, it’s going to be really, really awkward!
3. Though it’s technically just meeting up, the couple who introduced the two strangers basically planned a double date. You can’t really have much of a convo at a nightclub (on the other hand, if you two don’t have chemistry, the loud pumping music will make it hard to talk anyway, so it won’t matter too much). If either the guy or girl is a stuck up tool, they won’t care and just move onto what piece of ass grabs their attention, leaving the other person alone.
