Why is it that on your average night out on the town, it’s guys that are constantly making the first move (and constantly getting rejected) when girls are equally as interested in hooking up?
I know it doesn’t seem like it, what with all the knock backs guys get from girls in the club, but it’s true that girls are just as keen to pick up as guys during a night out on town. Well, most of the time anyway…
How do I know this, you ask? Firstly, and most importantly, I am a girl myself so I know about such girly things and the inner working of our crazy girly minds. And secondly, why else would girls bother spending hours primping themselves before a night out, get all dressed up in uncomfortable outfits and suffer the pain of high heels in order to make their legs appear longer and more shapely if they weren’t looking to attract a little attention?!
Yes, we do all these things to make ourselves feel confident and good about ourselves. But there is a small part of all of us that’s looking to pull a mate. It’s a primal thing. Also, it’s the socially acceptable thing; if you tried to go clubbing in trackies, you’d probably get turned away at the door (not that I’ve tried this).
So as much as we like to the think that we’ve left traditional gender roles in the 1950s, the truth is there are plenty of pollyannas out there desperately waiting for Prince Charming to put a ring on it and even more fun-loving vixens just out looking to have a good time – all of these girls are hoping to pick up.
Which brings me back to my original question: why are guys getting rejected so often then? The answer is that the girl is probably just not that into you! Don’t take it personally. It could be your approach is too full on, or your pick up line is too cheesy. Perhaps you’re not her type or she doesn’t like your outfit, or maybe – just maybe – she’s one of those rare birds not looking to actually pick up. Whatever the reason, just move on. Remember it’s a numbers game and the more people you manage to talk to in a night, the more chance you have of meeting someone that actually is totally into you.
