Every month after I pay my loan, rent and phone bills, I reserve some of the little cash i have leftover for three things: a pack of cider or Oyster Bay white wine, lip balm (an obsession), and a Cosmo - not the delicious pink cocktail Sex & the City made famous, but the shiny covered, 250 page spread magazine released once a month.
Reading this months issue, I flick to an interesting article Clever Ways To Survive Payday, one of the suggestions are having a party at home. It all makes me reminisce the days of house parties and how fun they were, no matter how crappy the house or small the room, house parties were DA BOMB (ignore my attempted humor).
A 4 pack of Smirnoff vodkas, a group of friends and a ride home and thats all you needed!
Fast forward to your 20s and house parties become fewer and fewer, with pub crawls and Uni happy hours an increase.
So my pondering thought is….why not have more house parties to save on cash and, well…effort? Instead of spending $50 on a new dres s- that will only end up ripped or stained - and withdrawing $100 - $150 (if your like myself and tend to shout shots when intoxicated) to only end up broke and hangover on a Sunday morning why not throw a house party?
How many friends you want over is up to you, and my personal rule is no crashes = no smashes (clever huh).
I ‘m talking cheap dinner parties or cocktail parties, BBQ parties even pool parties (if your lucky to own one).
Invite some friends (enough to have fun but not too much to trash your house), BYO (like usual) order some pizza and finish the night with drinks. The plus side is you dont need a ride home, when your favorite dress gets Malibu on it, just disappear off to change and well ah your back and ready to spill drinks all over again. You save on cash with the BYO rule and the pitch in pizza rule (unless your friend are tight arses).
What more can I say… a fun, affordable night in on a Friday or Saturday night.
