Spring is almost here and so is Island Vibes!

Feel like a weekend away camping and chilling to some awesome Reggae and Dub on a beach?

Well traditionally Island Vibes was mainly Reggae and Dub, but as it grows it is continuously expanding into new musical realms. This year will undoubtedly have you jumping and shaking around like a crazy hippy under the moonlight.

Island Vibes is held on North Stradbroke island (QLD), or Minjerribah, as the traditional owners call it. This annual event is in its sixth year and is only getting more popular as word spreads. The most beautiful part about this festival is its still very grass roots- as in you will mix with the locals on the Island and more than likely meet the artists performing. This an all ages event held over three days in October and you can opt to purchase camping ( I highly recommend).

This year, confirmed acts include:

  • Blue King Brown
  • Chali 2 Na -  Jurassic 5
  • Chali 2 Na. Imaged Sourced: analoggiant.blogspot.com

  • Impossible Odds
  • Dubmarine
  • DJ Katch- Resin Dogs

Plus heaps more local and international artists.

If you’re more interested in immersing yourself in some local culture then hit up the stalls with all the local art work or relax to the music with a massage. There are plenty of food stalls for everyone’s taste buds. Plus there are heaps of displays and stalls to participate in. ( I really want another Rainbow shirt).

Minjerribah is a popular tourist island, but  is taken care of by its dedicated consciously aware locals. If you do attend this event please make sure you clean up after yourself- don’t expect that some else should do it for you. There are also a bunch of free activities outside the festival to do like swimming and bush walking, partying with other campers. If you really want to be flash you can always rent out a holiday house.

The only to get to Minjerribah is by water transport (ferry, water taxi, boat or magic carpet). The island is about a 13Km from the Cleveland Bayside and around about 30km from Brissy City centre. The ferry dock is at Cleveland, but you should prepay your passes as the line-up is long. The option for camping and ferry passes are all bought separately, so make sure you get everything. You can take a car over as there are sealed roads, but if you intend of bush banging it then a 4 Wheel Drive is a must ( remember to fill the tank up). If you do camp there are a few camp sites around and a festival bus which will get you to and from the festival with ease, but check out the website to get the times and all other info.

Hope to see you there under the Rainbow banner!

This is not a BYO event.
