Let’s talk about sex…baby

Just like Salt and Pepa said in their song “everybody should be making love”

But let be fair if you’re going to do it, do it safe!

Sex can be a fantastic experience and if you’re travelling you’re bound to meet more than one person you finding attractive. But with every lustful encounter, you need to remember the risks.

There’s a bunch of sexually transmitted diseases which can be contracted in Australia, while the chances are quite low, it’s not nil.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics say the most likely sexually transmissible infection in Australia is Chlamydia, which is a treatable, but totally preventable STI.

Chlamydia is also known as the silent STI, sometimes women and men don’t even know they have contracted it. The problem is if you don’t know, you can’t treat it and if left undetected it cause serious harm to the body.

This STI can be contracted through oral, anal and vaginal sex. This means even if you’re legless and getting down and dirty be conscious enough to put the condom on. In an ideal world everyone would tell each other if they have an STI, but this is reality- no one talks about it because it’s embarrassing.

Good news if caught early enough Chlamydia can be treated with a course of antibiotics, but other STD’s can be for life.

So if you’re travelling around the last thing you want to do is end up with an STD, especially if you plan to have one-night stands and not take numbers.  Because signs and symptoms vary between diseases, just make sure you pay attention to any differences in your body especially between your legs. If you do have unprotected sex, it’s wise to get checked out just as a precaution. Prevention is better then cure.

Australian Government Website has a detailed site about the signs and symptoms of STIs.
