What To Expect @ Tank Nightclub

By Kelly Teng

If there's one place in Sydney that every clubber needs to go to at least once, it's Tank. Located in the heart of Sydney, Tank ticks all of the nightclub requirements: great atmosphere, great music, great crowd, great decor...and the list goes on. In fact, Tank is so great that its only downfall is the price paid by clubbers because of this popularity.

When I arrived at Tank, I was immediately greeted with a $20 entry fee. Thankfully, my university Access card saved me (It's $5 off on Friday nights for people with Access) and I was allowed to proceed in without that sinking feeling of knowing I'll be broke for the next week. The first thing that struck me was the energy of the clubbers around me: the people that go to Tank are largely 18-early 20s, so the party is always raging.

As I walked around, I only liked the place more: there were brick walls and lounges on the upper level for people who wanted to chill out, and nowhere to sit downstairs...so the only thing to do is dance. While not having seats may seem like a bad thing, the only thing worse is dancing near a group of people sitting on a lounge and realizing that they've been watching you dance the entire time (a la Soho). Tank caters to the sitters and the dancers, and divides them with - get this - a glass staircase. Just a little bit of a warning though: when you're drunk, that staircase can be the most confusing and trippy thing ever.

Ironically, Tank is not the location to actually get completely tanked off your face. Shots can be $9, making it hard on the wallet after an entry fee (But what do you expect from Merivale?). If you drink there, your night will become progressively worse and worse as you realise that you've spent your taxi money and have no way to get home. I opted instead for pre-drinks in the city before heading out to Tank to make sure that my night was as good as possible.

Aside from the great decor and great atmosphere, the best thing about Tank that most other nightclubs are missing is great bathrooms. Tank has plenty of bathrooms to avoid those ridiculous queues that always happen at big nightclubs, and on top of that, the bathrooms are actually clean. Yes, you heard me... clean. Add this to everything else the place has going for it, and you have yourself a night out with minimal drama and stress, and maximum enjoyment.

Tank is only open two nights of the week (Friday and Saturday), and their events sure make the most of that. RnB Superclub on Friday night is the perfect place to grind it to some hip hop and RnB, and OneLove on Saturdays provides some of the best electronic dance music that you will find in Sydney.

So on a Friday or Saturday night, there is only one place to be Tanked... just remember to buy the shots somewhere else.
