What to Expect @ The Passage Bar
Review by Sarah Han
The Passage is located on Victoria Street in Darlinghurst (which, by the way, is my new favourite place to wine, dine and cocktail the night away).
I must admit that my newfound love for Victoria Street is partly because I absolutely love WOWCOW, a frozen yogurt joint that is right opposite The Passage. A tip for frozen yogurt lovers - this is THE best fro-yo in Sydney! Do yourself a favour and try a super chilled yogurt before or after a few drinks at the Cross or Darlinghurst (note: the hazelnut flavoured fro-yo is my personal favourite).
But I digress. Back to The Passage.
The Passage is a restaurant and bar that looks tiny from the exterior, but it actually extends quite far inside. It's narrow and long in a corridor-like kind of way. Presumably, the name The Passage was conceived from its floor plan.
There are a couple tables outside if you want to enjoy the evening air, then there's a long communal table with stools in the first section. Further inside, there's a lounge area with one wall lined with a sofa and the other with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and curtains.
Furthest into The Passage is the bar. But we sit in the middle lounge section where it's comfortable and the drinks and food are brought to us. The ambience here is great - romantic candlelight, recycled bottles with flowers in it, and a contemporary decor. I love how each area has a different feel to it. There's no uniform style between the different areas, which gives the venue a sense of eclectic but comfy chicness.
I try The Passage Martini for $17, which is absolutely divine. We also order some food. The tapas-style menu boasts modern Australian cuisine and everything we try is delectable. But the highlights are definitely the stuffed zucchini flowers with goats cheese and truffle honey as well as the chicken liver parfait with pear and apple chutney.
The food and cocktails have me convinced. I'll definitely be coming back for more. Great food and lovely cocktails in a trendy venue - what more can you ask for?
