Okay, not all of us enjoy passing a train station at night, especially in the city’s midst… but let’s face it, it is time for you to grow a pair and get yourself dolled up for a classy few hours at Public House on Church Street, Richmond. There are no excuses if you are of a legal age and no excuses if you are far beyond the legal age. Don’t hold your lack of directional skills as a valid excuse either – the street it is the one with all the churches. Church Street.

Dazzling yourself with all the shops down Bridge Street will tire you out, so it’s best you drop into this impressive, double-storey hotspot for a drink. Choose from their extraordinary range of local and importehttps://www.barsandnightclubs.com.au/files/melbourne/melbourne-east/d wines or hit the spot with their lemon lime bitters – i have been searching long and hard for a place that can throw one together just right, and the public house hits the nail on the head with this one.

on the outside, the place looks much like an art gallery with its stoney exterior, cube decor on the front windows and a framed menu for passers-by to feast their eyes on. inside, the impressive appearance continues with a stunning bar as the central feature, splitting the first story into two – a restaurant for a fancy bite to eat, or the bistro for after work drinks.

your eyes may be attracted to the glass ashtrays that border the concrete walls, which remain bare, stained and artistically dirty for a contemporary effect, but pry them away for a moment and you will notice the stunning dim lighting that has put you into that glorious mood you are feeling.

it may also draw your attention to the bright red and gold, pub-style carpet that lies in patches here and there on the also bare flooring – slightly off-putting but nonetheless a nice touch to their attempt to make the location a classy venue for not-always-classy people. don’t worry, you can wear your favourite pair of worn jeans and a tee to suit this place, or dress to impress if you’d rather turn heads, though there never seem to be too many heads to turn.

if you’re thinking that the public house seems to be the bee’s knees, well it almost is just that… but the pricing of the food is a major downfall. a tiny bowl of fries and aioli – though served on a well presented tray – is a rich $6.50, but the taste is absolutely flawless. if you’re a big eater, public house’s fancy menu will have you stuck for choice, with many delicacies from around the world ready to please your taste-buds, and perhaps attack your wallet.

when you’ve guzzled enough of that delicious shiraz down, enjoy a trip up to the second floor, where a function room and beer garden accompanies the squeaky clean bathrooms, but be careful not to get lost in the enormous mirrors that cover the walls by the sinks. yes, you look dashing.

the friendly bar management and casual waiters are extremely friendly, youthful and relaxed and are happy enough for you to split the bill with your company; give them a tip, you know they deserve it. Oh, and if you wonder why you have suddenly become a fan of Mumford and Sons, it seems to be their favourite soundtrack.
