Club Red Sea Review

Review By Leanne Tay

Where does the elite go for a night out in Perth? Well the answer to that question lies in the heart of Subiaco. Club Red Sea fuses together the intimacy of a cosy little bar with the snazziness of a hot new club.

Before even reaching anywhere near the entrance, the sea of people lining up and eager to gain entry is almost off putting. At the same time however, I had a feeling the wait will surely be worth it.

After getting ID checked and forfeiting a measly $10, I ascended up the flight of stairs towards the music. Being true to its name, the entire club is ingeniously lit up with shades of amber and reds. It definitely sets the right kind of mood. There is just something about having to trek a little before you actually enter a club. Some may call it tedious whereas I just consider it cleverly held anticipation. In other words, the excitement builds.

The club itself is not a particularly roomy place but just like others before it Club Red Sea uses large mirrored walls to its advantage to create the illusion of extension. A bar on one end and a heightened dance floor on the other. At least the essentials are all there. Other than the lighting, the rest of the decor is rather undemanding and simple. From having a quick glance around to scout who my company was that evening I can advise that they were mostly within the 18-mid 20s age groups. If you decide to make an appearance, dressing casual smart is the key. Ladies can get away with anything (as per usual, isn’t it brilliant?) and fellas can rock up in a t-shirt and jeans.

While you are hammering down your drinks, the sounds of commercial RnB and dance music play in the air and not long after you may find yourself wild on the dance floor. Because Club Red Sea is so tight nit, it would not be unusual to be making new (but very temporary) friends with the other club goers. On the same note, I found myself getting bored quite effortlessly as the night progressed. It was difficult to adhere to and preserve the same mood that I was originally in from when I first entered the club. But nevertheless, it had a good run while it lasted and the club aptly accommodated it for as long as it could.

As Club Red Sea is situated right in the centre of all the festive nightlife in Subiaco, I couldn’t help but sense a trifling impression of highbrow class upon entering the club. Who knows what caused this notion, whether it was the crowd or the atmosphere. But after a couple of hours and even more than a couple of fairly priced drinks, it was impossible to care. I guess what I am trying to say is, come one come all.
