The Basement on Broadway Review

A quick walk from the University of Western Australia, The Basement is a second home to many students. Situated in the Broadway shopping centre, students migrate to the bar between 11am until midnight or 10pm on a Sunday.

With its modern furniture and music festival posters on the walls, The Basement has a cool and trendy vibe about it. You can’t help but feel in-with-it.

The Basement caters for a wide age bracket but attracts the young ones. Apart from older adults who might spend their lunch break here, you’ll find mostly 18-25 year-olds occupying the bar. Drinks and good food such as light bites and substantial meals are on offer from $8 to $32, which you find is worth it given the generous servings. Drink prices are what you expect when buying from a bar.

Apart from everyday occasions, The Basement is a great venue for functions and events. After attending a 21st at The Basement, I was impressed. Whilst having a great time, the shopping center surrounding makes you feel secure and safe. The inside and outside areas offer plenty of room for guests to mingle, drink and dance.

The few times I have been to The Basement, I have never felt out of place or uncomfortable. Dress up or dress down – it’s a pretty casual bar. People aren’t there to judge but rather to relax and unwind from the stresses of uni and work. It is also quite common to see people celebrating after the completion of uni assignments and semesters. Consequently, people go to The Basement with a good attitude and a willingness to drink and party.

However, uni student or not, The Basement is a great bar to pop into. If you’re ever passing through Nedlands or need somewhere to kick start a night out, The Basement is a safe and satisfying choice.
