Starting a brand new business must be so nerve wracking, easily one of the most stressful things a person can do. Putting all this cash you’ve gotten from various investors and sources (not to mention out of your own pocket!), everyone wants to make sure the business is going to be successful. But if your new business happens to be a nightclub, there is so much more than money to consider.
Many of Melbourne’s bar and media people gathered at the new South Yarra bar The Emerson for the first Time Out Melbourne Bar Awards on Monday November 25th. Happening on The Emerson’s rooftop bar with its gorgeous view of Commercial Road (expect for the construction happening across the road), with many complimentary Rekorderlig ciders, Sail & Anchor beers, Havana rum cocktails and Tempus Two wines flowing (score!).
Bouncers are that one person standing between you and your night out. Six-foot or taller and complete muscle, bouncers have the responsibility of selecting nightclubs patrons. Therefore, it is your duty to prove to these apes as to why you should be guaranteed entry.
The Big Bang Theory has to be just about the most popular sitcom on TV at the moment, if not the most popular TV show in general, with 20 million viewers who tuned in to see the current season’s opening episode. Who’d thought that the simple premise of a hot blonde having to deal with four nerds’ social awkwardness could churn out season after season and get people laughing hysterically?
The boys at Red Island Brewing have done it again, bringing us their brand new brew, the India Pale Ale. Dubbing itself as “your new drinking wingman”, this smooth brew goes down a treat. There’s little of that pesky froth that us beer drinkers can’t stand that gets in the way of the actual beer (score!).
Statistics show that majority of women are attracted to men who dress with a sense of formality, when compared to men who choose the easy way out and dress in casual attire. Girls definitely notice slovenly dressing, and it’s a major turnoff.
About to head out for a big night and then suddenly realise you’ve been to the same club every Saturday for the past couple of months? Feeling fed up of drinking the same drinks and seeing the same faces? The bar and club scene blues happen to all of us. But one of the best cures is simply to get a change of scenery and have a drink or two somewhere else!
A recent study by VicHealth and RMIT University concluded that there are four types of drinkers out there (or at least in Victoria). Embodying Australia’s huge drinking culture, it comes as no surprise that not only are there a lot of drinkers in Oz, but drinkers can be categorised into subgroups. Yep, us Aussies certainly love slowly destroying our livers.
We all have our limits when it comes to alcoholic drinks. Knowing when to stop drinking is mandatory before you embarrass yourself, harass others, throw up or get yourself into trouble. Sometimes it is best not to cross the line between tipsy to drunk and disorderly. In the interest of safety and respect for the law, it is best to have at least one semi-sober friend too.
It’s tradition in some workplaces to go out for Friday night drinks to celebrate the end of the work week and let off a little steam, but don’t get too comfortable, there is an invisible line you should never cross when it comes to workplace behaviour. Remember you’re going to have to see these people again, so in the spirit of keeping your job (and your dignity), here are a few guidelines to live by when it comes to workplace get-togethers.
