While writing about my clubbing experiences over the years, I realised I’ve partied for not only ten years, but also through halves of two different decades. Besides making me sound old (by clubbing standards anyway), I have seen a few different trends in fashion and music come and go.
The friendly banter between Australia and New Zealand has been going on for years now. Whether you say “G’day mate” or “Sup cuz?”, or if you’re bickering over who’s better at rugby or has the prettier countryside (on that note, let’s not even get into the sheep jokes…), you’ve heard all this before.
While writing my review of Waterslide Bar, it occurred to me that I’ve been legally allowed to go out drinking for ten years now. Having said that, I go to bars much more than nightclubs these days. Part of this is circumstance, but then I realised that my taste in venues to drink at have changed. That’s not to say I don’t like raging parties anymore (hell yeah, I do!).
Though many guys may be more worried about what a chick’s boobs and arse are like, their hair style should not be underestimated. Girls do ridiculously crazy things with it throughout their lives. Though a lot of it is them simply trying out new looks, part of the reason is to try to impress guys. In short, girls are (partially) doing it to pick up!
Most would think of going to a trip to the local grocery store during the week as a tiresome bore and going to bars on weekends as the highlight of said dull week. But new kid on the Melbourne bar scene General Store And Co. have combined the two worlds that should be foreign to one another, but with the fun of the latter winning.
Australian advocacy group DrinkWise has continued their mission of promoting a safer drinking culture to partygoers and drinkers with their latest campaign entitled How To Drink Properly. While it’s not as simple as raising your glass to your mouth and swallowing the liquid (though the ridiculously drunk have probably forgotten how to do this very basic function, now on the same level as babies getting the “here comes the airplane” treatment when being fed by mummy), it’s a very interesting campaign.
When we go out clubbing, everyone obviously dresses to impress, even if it is just to get on the bouncer’s good books so you won’t get barred. It is human nature to check out hotties when they looking more than fine, and there’s nothing wrong with this. In fact, you’d be considered weird if you didn’t!
Australian made craft beers have certainly gained popularity in recent years at trendy bars across Australia, and now it seems Asian craft beers are heading our way too. The founder of Asian Beer Online, Tim Brotherton, believes Japanese beers will make quite an impression with Aussie beer lovers, especially their latest brew Orion Premium Draft Beer. Dubbed as “the champagne of beers”, I spoke with Tim on his latest business venture.
I was in Sydney recently and wanted to check out the notorious Kings Cross nightlife as I was staying in the area. I ended up going to Hugo’s Lounge (what a top club!), and while waiting in line for the toilet, this drunk blonde girl was carrying on about how the guy she was with wouldn’t grab her arse while they were on the dance floor.
If you haven’t already seen it on the news, the notorious Kings Cross has been under scrutiny in the media once again. Sydney teenagers Thomas Kelly and Daniel Christie were sadly both bashed to death in the area on separate occasions over the past two years by being “king hit”, a one punch attack that causes a fatal blow.
