Every year when the weather begins to warm up, Canberra women take to the streets to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere only summer can offer. Fashion takes center stage and streets like Garema Place and Lonsdale Street are filled with the latest trends and quirky styles.
But every year amongst the sea of women there are always those few who stand out for all the wrong reasons and I think to myself (or out loud) ‘what is she wearing?’ Of late, this has been happening too often and I’m starting to feel like I have a mild case of turrets. As a lover of fashion, I believe it is my civic duty to help where I can. So in an attempt to do just that, here are the top 5 fashion mistakes Canberra women make in Summer.
1. Rolls Belong In A Bakery
If you’re wearing an outfit that creates rolls when you’re standing or sitting, it’s too tight! Instead, opt for an outfit that creates a more flattering silhouette by dressing to your body type.
2. Suit Up
Canberra is a laid back place with a pretty low care-factor rate when it comes to fashion. Women will generally forgo fashion for comfort during the week. I know its not New York City, but come on people, suit up!
3. You’re Not Rihanna, So Don’t Try To Be
Fashion is great. It allows you to express yourself and be adventurous, but we live in the real world and there is such a thing as too much skin! Instead, focus on one key feature of your body to show off- legs, chest or back. Never all 3 at once!
4. To Culotte Or Not To Culotte?
You know the saying ‘trends come and go, but style is forever’? Well it’s true, not everyone call pull off the latest trends and not everyone should. The need to conform is a universal problem, but the sooner you identify your own personal style, the more comfortable you’ll be with yourself and the more likely you’ll turn into a trendsetter.
5. How Many Was That?
Summer and alcohol go hand in hand, but the way you carry yourself can make or break an outfit. Add excess alcohol and you can quickly find yourself drawing attention for all the wrong reasons.
So next time you get ready to hit the town ladies, wear something you love that makes you feel confident and compliments your body type, but remember there is a difference between confidence and denial.
