Typical female response, there is no right answer for this, it depends on a number of factors. From being the barmaid in this situation, I’ll pass on some attempts that have worked and others that have failed miserably. Hopefully it will stop barmaids from being rudely hit on everywhere.
Firstly, the old saying goes “don’t shit where you eat”, the same philosophy applies if you are trying to pick up the barmaid at your usual club. There are two important facts to remember; firstly girls do gossip so everything about your performance, techniques and treatment of an ex hook-up will be relayed back to her.
This brings me to my second point. The bar has a great view of most of the club, so if the barmaid is even slightly interested, she would have been stealing looks at you all night and seen you hitting on all the other girls in the club. Here’s a little hint: it is extremely RUDE to be the last resort. Take my advice; if every other girl had turned you down that night, there is probably a reason, remember what I said about gossip!
Another thing to keep in mind when hitting on the barmaid is timing. When the bar is five deep, and she is serving three people at once, it’s probably not the best time to try and get her number. Not only is it RUDE, you are unlikely to succeed and are more often than not ensure that she doesn’t serve you for the rest of the night.
One thing that will always earn you points is to ask the barmaid her name. Something that seems so simple, but is constantly over looked. Another tip is to be original! There is nothing worse then hearing the same line over and over again. For example, using Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe” line when it was popular had me wanting to throw the drink I had poured in the guy’s face. Put a little bit of effort into your pick up lines and they will be well received.
Finally, when hitting on the barmaid don’t just expect that after thirty seconds of chit-chat that you will be getting her number; if this is what you are expecting then you are extremely full of yourself. Make her feel like you are genuinely interested, be the guy that goes up each shout, or if you notice the bar is quiet go up and continue your previous conversation. Again, putting a bit more effort in will work in your favour, set you apart for the rest of the one-liners and will be a welcome relief for the barmaid. It is always more then OK to be flattered and appreciated.
