When you walk into a bar and start scanning the room, mingling and meeting people, there are so many factors that can effect what makes a person attractive or not, and that will ultimately effect whether you’ll remain chatting up the person in front of you or walk away to find somebody better. Two of these factors are looks and job title. But which is more important when it comes to picking up? Do smouldering, Ryan Gosling-esque good looks trump a CEO position? Or vice versa?
It would sound pretty shallow to say that if a person is good looking, it doesn’t matter if they are dumb, mean, unemployed and unmotivated. By the same token, just because someone is a cashed up, successful business person doesn’t make them a nice person (or change the fact that they are butt ugly).
However, it must be acknowledged that most often it is someone’s looks that initially draws you to them, so in this case I do think looks are slightly more important than job title in the game of picking up…to begin with anyway.
After you’ve met somebody though, it’s your job title that can keep you in the game longer. No lady wants a man who can’t afford to buy her flowers on Valentine’s Day, and no man wants a woman that’s a gold digger (Kanye has already warned us about women like that), so it’s nice to know that the person you are romancing has a decent job.
An awesome job title can also be an indication of other good personal qualities like motivation, financial stability and intelligence. Remember, looks fade and I’m pretty sure Donald Trump has not been so ‘lucky in love’ because of his dashing appearance and thick head of hair. At the risk of sounding like a cynic who doesn’t believe that love is blind - I’d say it probably has something to do with his money, which is directly related to his job title.
Although it’s not lost on me that for Mr Trump, it was his wife’s looks that impressed him rather than her successful career as a model. So perhaps we’ll just have to settle for the fact that the importance of looks and job title are relative – and when it really comes down to it, they mean nothing compared to a dazzling personality and good sense of humour.
