Indie music seems to be everywhere these days. It used to be obscure music only hipsters listened to, but now it’s crept into the mainstream in a big way (which kinda contradicts how it’s supposed to be independent, or “indie”).
So big that it needed its own music festival, taking the form of St Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Having started in Melbourne in 2004, it has not only spread across Australia, but even Auckland and Singapore have caught indie fever. (To the many people out there who roll their eyes when they hear the words “indie music”, avoid Laneway at all costs!)
Laneway’s 2013 lineup is totally uber cool:
Alpine
Alt J
Bat For Lashes
Chet Faker
Cloud Nothings
Divine Fits
El-P
Flume
Henry Wagons
High Highs
Holy Other
Japandroids
Jessie Ware
Julia Holter
Kings Of Convenience
The Men
Ms Mr
The Neighborhood
Nicolas Jaar
Nite Jewel
Of Monsters And Men
Perfume Genius
Polica
Pond
Real Estate
The Rubens
Shlohmo
Snakadaktal
Twerps
